Cooking 4 Community

Cooking 4 Community is a collaborative Edmonton-based initiative that pairs food skill-building with the chance to support local food security.

New Grocery Movement is teaming up with Touch Grass Club and the AUUC Youth Council to bring you community cooking classes!

Read on to learn all the details of these innovative, community-led classes or head to our Events page to check our calendar and register for the next class!

Cooking 4 Community is a 6-month initiative running from January to June 2025. Once a month, we welcome all to meet at Edmonton's Ukrainian Centre, where we will learn the recipe for a cultural dish, work together to cook big batches, and then package warm meals to be shared with our food insecure neighbours.

Each month features a new cultural dish, led by a knowledgable community member or organization, who will share the context of the dish and its importance to them and their culture. These classes are designed to take you on a flavourful journey, pairing the opportunity to improve your cooking skills and food knowledge, with the chance to fight food insecurity in our community. We end the class by sitting down to enjoy a meal together and celebrate all we learned, cooked, and shared!

We are grateful to The Cherry Pit and Bear Claw who are partnering for this initiative to distribute our warm meals to neighbours. We are also grateful to APIRG and the City of Edmonton for sponsoring this initiative with funding support.

The next Cooking 4 Community class is Monday, March 03 @4:30pm MST.

We are thrilled to feature Indian cuisine for March! We will be cooking Aloo Paratha, a spiced potato flatbread dish led by Varshini Prakash.

Our classes always sell out! Register asap to secure your tickets by clicking the button below.
